Greater rhea
The Greater Rhea is the largest bird in Sout America. They are related to emus and ostritches. They have huge powerful legs, and are flightless. Their huge wings are used for balancing and changing direction while running. The females lay eggs about once every week. The females nest are used for many females so it holds about fifty eggs at one given time. The average lifespan is about 15 years. They are about 3-5 feet tall. The greater rhea weights about 50 lbs. They eat plants, fruits, seeds, insects, lizards, birds, and other small game. Rhea eggs are collected for food and many people eat their meat. Their skins are used to manufacture leather so hunting has been used to supply this trade. With those effects it has thinned numbers drasticly throught the pampas. To get away from pretators they use their strong legs to flee.
